High cost for what seems to be a dangerous product
The extender I ordered was the only one available to me, a 9"-26" adjustable model. This is really NOT what I wanted, as I only required about three additional inches to accommodate a heavy winter coat when I am driving my car. However, my car is a 1993 Buick Roadmaster, and this was the only option available. Sadly, this belt, even when adjusted to its smallest size, makes the shoulder strap ride outside my shoulder, rendering that portion of the lap/shoulder belt combination pretty much useless. I am not certain that I am as safe if I were to be involved in a crash, as the shoulder harness would not restrain me the way it was originally intended. Additionally, there seems to be no way to "lock" the extender in place so that it doesn't further extend during use. When I use it, the adjustable nature of this particular extender makes it loosen further. There is no way to "lock" or secure it to a set length so that it doesn't extend further during use. I find myself arriving at destinations with a lap belt that is very loose, and no shoulder strap coverage at all. To top it all off, the extender cost me $40. I find this to be an overly pricey resolution to a simple problem, which really isn't working for me. I now have more headaches/hassles when I drive in the winter, not less as I had hoped. I am considering returning it, as it is more of a safety issue to use it than to just go without my dress coat when I am winter driving to a fancy function.
