How to Choose the Best Extender Length

The Shorter the Safer

One of the most frequent questions we get is, "How do I know which length I need?"

This is a great question and an essential component of making sure you get the right and safest extender for you.

The number one rule of selecting the right length extender is to choose the shortest possible length that will resolve your seat belt need. The shorter the safer.

To determine the best length extender, sit in your seat and buckle up, if possible. If you can buckle up but can barely move (or buckle up), select the shortest length available in the style you want - just enough to alleviate the extreme tightness of the belt. In the Rigid Style, try the Mini 3" Extender, or for the Regular Style, try the 7" Extender.

If you cannot buckle up, the only conditions under which you should use an extender, measure the distance between the base of the metal tongue of your seat belt and the receptacle of your seat belt. Add 1". Now look for the length closest to that in the style that you'd prefer.

Note that the way we quote lengths is the amount of additional extension you get when you're buckled up.

If you have any questions about measuring, of course, be in touch. If you have other questions, try our Frequently Asked Questions page.
